Privacy Policy

Last updated October 21, 2026

WaxSnap identifies vinyl records from a photo and helps you keep a collection. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the control you have over it. We keep it short because we collect little.

What we collect

  • Photos you snap. When you snap a record, the image is sent to our identification service to recognize the album. If you save a snap, the photo is stored so it can appear in your history across your devices.
  • Your collection. The albums you add, love, or wishlist, along with details like condition and estimated value, so your crate is there when you return.
  • Account information. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a stable account identifier and, where you allow it, your name and email. We use this to sign you in, to keep your collection, profile, follows and Premium with your account, to suggest a name when you set up a profile, and to show you which account you are signed in with. If you link a Google and an Apple sign-in to one WaxSnap account, we keep both identifiers, and the email address each one shared, together on that account until you unlink them or delete the account.
  • Spotify connection. If you connect Spotify, we store access tokens so we can create playlists and read track details on your behalf. You can disconnect at any time.
  • Purchases. If you buy WaxSnap Premium, we store your subscription status and the App Store transaction identifiers Apple gives us, so your unlock keeps working across your devices and after a reinstall. We never see your card, billing address, or any payment details: Apple handles all of that.
  • A device identifier. If you use WaxSnap without signing in, we set an anonymous identifier so your collection can still be saved and restored. It is not linked to your identity. On iOS the app also keeps a random identifier on the device so your free snap count survives a reinstall.

We do not collect location, your phone's contacts, browsing history, or advertising identifiers, and WaxSnap contains no third-party ad trackers. The only connections between people we keep are follows and blocks, described under Public profiles.

How we use it

Your data is used to run the features you ask for: identifying a record, saving and syncing your collection, showing your snap history, and creating Spotify playlists. We do not sell your data, and we do not use your photos or collection to build advertising profiles.

Who we share it with

We rely on a small set of providers, each handling only what its feature needs:

  • OpenAI processes the photo you snap to identify the album. Snaps are sent for recognition and are not used by us to train models.
  • Discogs provides album metadata, artwork, and estimated market values from search terms. We do not send your photos to Discogs.
  • Spotify receives requests to search tracks and create playlists only after you connect your Spotify account.
  • Google and Apple handle sign-in when you choose it, and confirm your identity to us. Apple also processes every WaxSnap Premium purchase and tells us only whether your subscription is active.
  • Vercel hosts WaxSnap and stores your synced collection and saved snap photos.

Where your data lives

Your collection is cached on your device and mirrored to secure cloud storage so it survives if your device clears its local data. Saved snap photos are stored in cloud file storage. We keep your data for as long as you use WaxSnap, and remove it when you delete your account.

Public profiles

A profile is private until you make it public. A public profile shows what you choose, along with its Followers and Following lists, to anyone with its link and to other WaxSnap users in the app, and search engines can list it in their results. The name, bio, and photo you add to a profile, and the names of your shelves and crates and a crate's search words, are checked by OpenAI's moderation service before they appear, and deleting your account deletes your profile.

When you are signed in you can follow public profiles, and following is public. We store who you follow and who follows you with your account, and use it only to show the shelves of the people you follow on your Home screen and the Followers and Following lists on public profiles. When you follow someone, you appear in their Followers list and they appear in your Following list, for anyone who can see either profile. If you have no public profile, you appear in other people's lists only as a number, never by name. Nobody is sent an alert when you follow them. When someone removes you as a follower, or either of you blocks the other, the follow ends and drops out of both lists. Deleting your account removes you from every Followers and Following list and deletes the follows and blocks we store for you.

A block hides that profile on your device at once. If you are signed in, we also store the block with your account, so the follows between you end in both directions and that account cannot follow you again. A block is kept with the account of the person who made it, under an opaque code for the blocked account rather than its details, so it still applies if that account is deleted and comes back with the sign-in it was made with. If a second sign-in was linked to the blocked account and is later unlinked, that sign-in opens a separate account the block does not cover. When you block or report a profile, we receive a notice naming that profile so we can review it. The notice records your account, or a one-way hash of your network address when you are signed out, and we keep reports for up to the last 1,000 so we can act on repeated abuse, even after an account is deleted.

Your choices and rights

  • Delete everything. Open Settings and choose Delete Account (or Delete All Data if you are not signed in). This permanently removes your synced collection, your saved snap photos, and any community posts from our servers, and signs you out.
  • Disconnect Spotify. Disconnect in Settings to revoke our access and delete the stored tokens.
  • Use it anonymously. You can skip sign-in entirely and still use WaxSnap.
  • Access or questions. Contact us for a copy of your data or any privacy request.

Children

WaxSnap is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, note it in the app.
