Getting started

Where can I use WaxSnap?

On any phone, in the browser at www.waxsnap.app. On an iPhone you can also get the app from the App Store.

Do I need an account?

No. Tap Continue without signing in and you can snap right away.

Without an account, your collection is tied to that one phone or browser, and it can be lost if the app is deleted or the browser’s data is cleared. Sign in and your vinyl collection goes wherever you go.

Snapping a record

How do I snap a record?

Tap Snap, fill the frame with the front cover and take the photo. WaxSnap shows the record it found and asks Is this your album? Tap Yes, that’s it to open the album.

It picked the wrong record. What now?

Tap Not this one. WaxSnap shows its other guesses and lets you search Discogs, retake the photo or use the barcode. You can also tap Search manually instead and type the artist or album.

If you only notice on the album page, tap Wrong Record? there. It shows right after a snap when you don’t have Premium, and it takes that snap off your count. You can do this a limited number of times each month.

What does “Best guess” mean?

WaxSnap could not confirm the match, so it shows its best guess with other options under Is it one of these? A best guess never uses one of your free snaps.

Can I use a barcode, or a photo I already have?

Yes. On Home, tap Scan Barcode, fill the frame with the barcode and tap the round button. Or tap Upload Photo and pick a picture of the cover.

You can also tap Or search by name and type the artist or album.

The camera won’t open.

WaxSnap needs camera access. In the iPhone app, tap Open Settings on the camera screen and turn on Camera. In a browser, allow camera access for the site in the browser’s settings.

Until then, you can still tap Upload Photo, or tap Or search by name and type the artist or album. Both are on Home.

Prices

Where do the prices come from?

From Discogs. Low is the price Discogs suggests for a copy in Good condition, Median is Very Good Plus and High is Mint.

They are suggested prices for each grade, not what copies have sold for.

Which pressing is the price for?

A snap names the album, not the exact pressing in your hands. So WaxSnap prices one of the most common pressings. Before you add the record, the line under the figures names which one.

To price your own copy, add the record to your Collection, open it and tap Scan Barcode for Exact Pressing. No barcode? Tap Edit, then Find pressing on Discogs.

Why does it say “From” and one price?

That is the cheapest copy listed on Discogs, in any condition. WaxSnap shows it when Discogs has no suggested prices for that pressing.

When Discogs’ suggestions sit far above the copies listed for sale, you see both: the cheapest copy and Discogs’ price for a VG+ copy, or for your copy’s grade once you grade it. A copy you grade VG or better counts Discogs’ price for its grade. A copy graded G+ or G, or not graded, counts the cheapest copy, and Fair and Poor are not priced.

Why is there no price?

No market price on Discogs for this one yet means WaxSnap found no price for the record on Discogs.

Market value is not available right now means the price could not be fetched just then. Open the record again in a minute.

How do I set the condition, or my own value?

Open the record from your Collection. On the Condition row, tap the grade on the right, which reads Not Graded until you pick one. When Discogs has prices for each grade, the estimate follows the grade. Fair and Poor show N/A.

To use your own figure, tap the value and type it in. It then reads Your Value and counts in your Collection total.

How do I refresh the values in my Collection?

On the Collection tab, tap Update values under the total. WaxSnap checks one record about every seven seconds, because Discogs limits how fast prices can be fetched, so 100 records take about 12 minutes. It keeps going while you use the app and tells you which records have no price.

Listening

What can I listen to?

Tap a track to hear a 30 second preview. You don’t need an account. Play All plays every preview on the album in order.

Can I hear full songs?

Yes, with an Apple Music subscription. Tap the Apple Music button on a track. The first time, you will be asked to allow or sign in to Apple Music.

If a full song can’t play, WaxSnap says why, and the preview still works.

Why does a track open Spotify or YouTube Music?

A few tracks have no preview. Those rows say Opens in Spotify or Opens in YouTube Music and open the song there. You can choose which one in Settings, under Playback.

Can I turn my collection into a playlist?

Yes. On the Collection tab, tap the three dots at the top right, then Make a Playlist, and choose Apple Music. Every track of every record Apple Music carries is saved to your Apple Music library, which needs an Apple Music subscription.

Your collection and account

I signed in and my collection is missing.

Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google are two separate WaxSnap accounts until you link them. Settings shows which one you are using.

To link them, open Settings, tap Sign-in methods, tap Link Apple or Link Google and sign in with that account, then tap Link accounts. After that, either sign-in opens the same collection, profile and Premium. If both accounts already have a profile, they can’t be linked.

If you built your collection without signing in, it is on the phone or browser where you made it. Open WaxSnap there and sign in, and it joins your account.

How do I export my collection?

On the Collection tab, tap the three dots at the top right, then Export. You can download a spreadsheet file, copy it, share it as a list, or share all your covers as one picture.

Turn off Include values to leave the prices out.

How do I delete my account?

In Settings, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account, then Delete. If you are not signed in, the button reads Delete All Data. This permanently erases your collection, wishlist, loved tracks, snap history, photos and profile from our servers and from the phone or browser you are using. It cannot be undone.

If you use WaxSnap on another phone or browser, delete it there too. That one keeps its own copy until you do.

Deleting your account does not cancel a Premium subscription. Cancel that in your Apple Account settings as well.

Profiles

How do I make a profile and create a shelf?

Tap Profile, sign in, and tap Set up your profile. Choose a handle and get a link: waxsnap.app/@yourhandle. Your profile stays private until you turn on Public profile in Edit profile.

A shelf shows the records you want to display at the top of your profile. In your Collection, press and hold a cover and choose Add to a shelf.

What can people see on my profile?

Your photo, name, handle and bio, plus your shelf, your crates and your collection. You can switch any of those three off in Edit profile, under Sharing.

Your Followers and Following lists show too, and there is no switch for those. Anyone who can see your profile can see who you follow and who follows you. People without a public profile are counted, not named.

Record values stay hidden unless you turn on Record values. Your notes and your own photos of sleeves are never shown.

How do I report or block a profile?

On the profile, tap the three dots at the top right. Report profile sends it to us, and we review every report within 24 hours.

Block hides the profile on the phone or browser you are using. When you are signed in, it also ends any follow between you and stops them following you.

WaxSnap Premium

What does WaxSnap Premium include?

Unlimited snaps and a collection with no limit (the Free tier holds 20 records).

Everything else works without it: prices, pressing details, your value history, previews, playlists and your profile.

How do free snaps work?

Your first 7 snaps are free, with or without an account, and they do not renew. In the iPhone app, open Settings and tap WaxSnap Premium to see how many you have used.

Only successful snaps count. Failed snaps, best guesses, barcodes and searching by name never use one.

After that, new snaps need Premium. The records already in your collection stay there either way.

How many records can I keep for free?

On the Free tier, your collection holds 20 records, however you add them: a snap, a barcode or a search. A collection that already has more keeps every record, and takes new ones again once it is under 20.

With Premium there is no limit. Your wishlist and the records you love have no limit either way.

How do I buy Premium?

In the iPhone app, open Settings, tap WaxSnap Premium and choose Annual, Monthly or Lifetime. You need to be signed in, because Premium belongs to your WaxSnap account and follows you to every device.

WaxSnap in the browser does not sell Premium, but it recognizes yours when you sign in there with the same account.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open the WaxSnap Premium sheet in the iPhone app and tap Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple Account and the same WaxSnap sign-in you bought it with.

How do I cancel, or get a refund?

A subscription renews until you cancel it in your Apple Account settings. In the iPhone app, subscribers also see Manage Subscription on the Premium sheet. Cancelling stops future renewals, and Premium runs to the end of the time you paid for.

Refunds are handled by Apple. You can ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
